POSTERS IN
TIME ORDER.

The archive is organized by the show date whenever that date is verified. If a piece has no year, song titles, album references and other clues can place it in a likely window—but an estimate stays labeled as an estimate. Dated show records can be built before a matching poster is found.

Fast dating rule

Read it. Place it. Verify only when needed.

1. Printed dateExact month/day/year wins.
2. Song or album clueSets a not-before date or likely range.
3. Cross-checkBand, venue, promoter, bill, tape or newspaper.
4. Label confidenceConfirmed, year-only, estimated or conflict.

Poster timeline

Verified promotional artifacts are added in date order.

Archive rule: a show can appear in the dated trail before its poster scan is located. Generated mockups are never substituted for historical artifacts.
Historical artifacts located

Eight poster records already in the working catalog.

The historical image exists in the research trail. Version 1 shows the catalog record first rather than substituting a generated recreation for the original artifact.

Display rule: when the original scan is cleared and loaded into the site, it can replace the catalog-record face. Until then, the public page tells visitors that an image has been located without pretending a mockup is the historical poster.

Important: these are show-evidence records, not claims that a poster for each event has been found. When a real promotional piece surfaces, it attaches to this existing record rather than creating a duplicate event.

How an undated poster gets placed

The song-title shortcut you suggested is built directly into the catalog logic.

Confirmed

Printed date or independently locked exact show date.

Year only

The year is supported but month/day remain unknown.

Estimated

Placed in a range using song/album release clues plus contextual evidence.

Date conflict

One show record stays intact while competing dates are investigated.

Example of the shortcut: if an undated flyer advertises a song that did not exist before 1986, the flyer cannot be from 1984. That does not automatically make it a 1986 flyer; it simply gives us a fast lower boundary to combine with the venue, lineup and other evidence.
