Chance Band
Artist overview
Chance Band belongs in the early-1980s Go-Go map. Old School Go-Go independently preserves 1980 Landover and Northwest recordings, while the I AM GO-GO working catalog starts in the same year and expands through schools, clubs and neighborhood venues. A particularly valuable period source comes from February 1985, when Record Mirror reported that Island Records’ Julian Palmer had seen Ayre Rayde and Chance Band at Cheriy’s during a Washington visit.

Live & PA archive
Chance Band’s surviving trail is unusually useful because the private and public catalogs overlap in the early 1980s. Repeated “with Foxy Brown” labels are retained exactly as collector metadata; the archive does not identify that performer beyond what the labels support.
Timeline
Landover and Northwest-area Chance Band entries establish activity by 1980; formation year remains open.
Public and private recording trails both preserve Chance at Kaywood.
Working catalog adds school and club evidence, including a Foxy Brown label at Maverick Room.
Anacostia H.S., Cheriy’s, H.D. Woodson, Howard Theatre, Moonlite Inn, Oakcrest, Panorama Room, Spingarn and Southeast Rec Center appear in the working trail.
Record Mirror says Island Records’ Julian Palmer saw Ayre Rayde & Chance Band at Cheriy’s during a Washington visit.
Washington City Paper lists Chance Band on Go-Go Fest ’97; the archive does not assume unchanged membership from the early-1980s group without further evidence.
People
Connections
Chance Band connects the archive to the early neighborhood/school circuit, to Ayre Rayde through a documented Cheriy’s bill, and to the regional tape culture that preserved bands whose commercial-release footprint was much smaller than their live presence. That makes Chance important to the site even while its full personnel and formation history remain open.
