Central Groove
Artist overview
Central Groove is one of the strongest examples of a young Go-Go band reaching beyond the local tape circuit during the mid-1980s. An August 1985 Cash Box report said Vanguard Records had signed Central Groove, described the group as 13 musicians in their late teens, and explained that Washington station WDJY helped bring the band to the label’s attention. Manager Eddie Best had already been moving the first single, “Special How Ya Do,” locally on his CC7 label.

Connections
Central Groove shows why the early Go-Go story cannot be reduced to only the best-known bands. Their 1985 Vanguard deal places a teenage Go-Go group directly inside the national record-industry push happening around the same period as the major established acts.
